Vanessa Garcia is a writer and visual artist working in various mediums. Working equally within the fields of writing and painting – she is constantly cross-referencing her literary, journalistic, and visual worlds.
Her work is a mixed-media language that traverses the thematic scope of exile and Diaspora, as well as music, art, urban development and the growth of the American city.
Her paintings, which meet somewhere between abstraction and figuration, are about the place where past and present meet. Like the cities she has lived, worked, and traveled through, her visual art is both nostalgic and innovative, about memory and desire, present and past, translating all of those layers into a 21st century language.
Garcia has shown her work in New York, Miami, and California (please see CV for details) and performed her plays from Miami to New York to Arkansas. She is also the director and founder of a theatre company called The Krane, in Miami (www.thekrane.com). And, is currently at work on a novel.
